JERSEY CITY, NJ – Amid the glimmering lights and echoes of applause, Dr. Dely Po Go, 2023 Grand Marshal of the Philippine American Friendship Community (PAFCOM), delivered a remarkable speech during PAFCOM’s Grand Marshal and Coronation Ball held at the Mariott Liberty Hotel in Newark, NJ on May 20.
In her message, she highlighted the importance of community and unity. She congratulated PAFCOM’s commitment to fostering a strong and united community dedicated to promoting the best interests of Filipino Americans.
“The PAFCOM community possesses the power to create positive change and make a lasting impact,” she said, urging them to reflect upon its accomplishments and rededicate its 33 years of growing stronger, serving better, and soaring higher to the future.
She noted each individual’s diverse perspectives, cultures, and heritage as Filipino American, emphasizing the strength and resilience stemming from shared experiences.
“Embrace diversity and inclusivity to foster creativity, innovation, and progress within the community,” said Dr. Go. She also stressed the importance of sacrifice, acknowledging the foundation laid by ancestors and community members, calling upon the audience to honor their legacy by making sacrifices for the greater good and fostering an environment that values hard work and determination.
The commitment to serving better was another core theme of Dr. Go’s speech. She highlighted the transformative power of education and the importance of providing scholarships to deserving students. She also urged parents to instill values of compassion, empathy, and service in their youth to create a lasting legacy for future generations.
According to Dr. Go, soaring higher requires resilience and a positive mindset. She praised Filipino Americans’ remarkable history of resilience, emphasizing the need to hold onto this strength for continued growth and success. She also emphasized staying positive to overcome obstacles, find solutions, and inspire others.
Dr. Go called upon the Philippine-American Friendship Community to embrace the visions of growing stronger, serving better, and soaring higher. She said that by celebrating diversity, recognizing sacrifices, providing opportunities, and staying resilient and optimistic, Filipino Americans could continue building a brighter future and lasting impact on the world.
In concluding her remarks, she expressed her gratitude and urged the attendees to the evening’s festivities, reminding everyone of their collective power as a united community.
